New On The Catwalk

Istituto Europeo Di Design

Established in Milan in 1966 by its current President, Francesco Morelli, IED offers thorough, effective training, based on the theory and practice of design culture, to young people who want to embark on creative careers in Fashion, Design, Visual Arts and Communications, with campuses in Milan, Rome, Turin, Venice, Madrid, Barcelona and São Paulo, that organize three-year post-secondary school courses, advanced courses and Masters.

The campus of IED Barcelona, a former chocolate factory, is located in Gracia, a neighbourhood with strong personality and character. Recently and due to the rapid growth, IED has acquired the old Macson textile factory as the future location for the school campus. IED Barcelona currently counts around 1.000 students from 35 different countries, offering the opportunity to study in an international atmosphere, which provides a cultural exchange.

The coolest area, swarming with trends, is the fashion area. The objective of this area is to prepare highly creative professionals trained to play a leading role in an increasingly complex, diversified and influential industry. IED supports their young Designers by organising a final fashion show each year, where their final projects are presented so that they learn, understand and adapt to the professional reality. Members of the fashion press, prestigious designers, companies and most importantly institutions we’re invited to the event, held in July. The last edition of the fashion show was titled: “Hyperbodies, Cuerpos Emergentes”.

The 37 IED Barcelona Fashion Design students in their final year of studies, created a total of 106 styles, inspired by the human body and born from an intense investigation and process of experimentation. IED Barcelona firmly believes in the creative potential of its students, providing them with the necessary resources and help in making their name by participating in all the national and international platforms of the fashion industry.

Among the shows the school has participated in Ego Cibeles(Madrid),My Own Show(Milan),and Modafad (Barcelona) which was created especially to get know emerging fashion and provide visibility to young designers. The rigorous studies of the fashion school were rewarded in the last edition of Modafad with the selection of Laura Diéguez, Ixone Elzo, Georgina Garcia and Alejandra Lorenzo, all recent graduates, who presented their work in the fashion show ‘Modafad Cover_ T’.

Not only were they able to present their work, but Laura Diéguez obtained the prize for best creativity awarded for her final project ‘Monstruoplastia’. Ida Johansson was allowed to present her first collection at the past edition of ‘Cibeles’, being very well received by the public and critics. The recognition of Laura Diéguez adds to a long list of Designers from IED Barcelona and as previously mentioned Ida Johansson, Suzy Sanz and Astrid Nahmad among others that are successfully opening roads in the difficult fashion world, at an international level.
