BA Design programmes include Animation and Motion Design, Ceramics, Fashion, Visual Communications. In Fine Art there are BA’s in Painting, Printmaking and Contemporary Practice , Sculpture & Combined Media and Photography and Lens Based Media and at Clonmel BSc’s in Creative Multi Media and Digital Animation Production. Post Grad programmes include a H DIP in Art & Design Teaching, MA in Art Education, MA SPACE, Social Practice and the Creative Environment. LSAD also has a growing number of Research students at Masters (Level 9) and PhD (Level 10).

Fashion Knitwear and Textiles - BA (Hons) in Design (Level 8): This unique Bachelor of Arts in Design in Fashion Knitwear and Textiles, offers students the opportunity of training in areas specific to fashion knitwear design and production within the clothing sector and also knitted textile design, focusing on areas which include accessories for fashion, interior accessories and fine art textiles. The popularity of knitwear design within the existing internationally recognised BA in Fashion Design programme is evidenced by the previous success of students in recent knit competitions including the RDS Competition in Knit and Crochet (2011), Persil Fashion Awards (2010) and international competitions including Mittel Moda.

Recent students who have specialised in knitwear include Rebecca Marsden and Fiona Nugent with past graduates including Orlaith O’Connor and Katarzyna Wypych showing their graduate knit collections in Shanghai (2010) and Washington DC (2010). There is an increased demand for knit specialisation in fashion at both national and international level, and this programme aims to meet this growing demand. LSAD is unique in being the only third level college in Ireland to offer training on the Shima Seiki industrial knitwear machine.

This new programme also offers students the exciting prospect to work on live, collaborative projects in conjunction with the knit sector and a work placement within industry. Fashion Knitwear & Textiles - Higher Certificate (Level 6): This unique 2 year Higher Certificate in Design in Fashion Knitwear and Textiles offers students the opportunity of training in fashion knitwear design and production within the clothing /garment sector and also knitted textile design and production, focusing on areas beyond fashion and clothing, i.e., accessories for fashion, interior accessories and fine art textiles. A BA in Fashion Knitwear and Textiles is in development which will offer students a pathway to progress from the Higher Certificate programme. The programme offers students the exciting prospect of placement and the opportunity to work on live, collaborative projects within the knit industry sector.

The popularity of Knit as an option within the existing BA in Fashion Design programme is evidenced by previous successes of Fashion students in recent knit competitions. e.g., RDS Competition in Knit and Crochet (2011) Persil Fashion Awards (2010 and international Feel the Yarn and Mittelmoda competitions.
